Real Texas HoneyTM Detailed guidelines
To participate in the Real Texas HoneyTM program, the applicant must be a member in good standing of the Texas Beekeepers Association (TBA).
Participants in the program must submit an online application.
Participants will be contacted each year for re-verification.
Approval by members of the TBA executive committee must be granted before inclusion in the honey locator, or use of the Real Texas HoneyTM mark or seal.
Any honey offered as Real Texas HoneyTM must be produced by honey bees residing in Texas.
All honey labeled as Raw may be minimally flash heated below 140°F for processing, never pasteurized, and not heated above 120°F for re-liquefying.
All honey labeled as Unfiltered must not be ultra-filtered, and will contain pollen as collected by the honey bees.
All honey labeled as Pure and/or Natural must not be flavored or contain any other additive or substance.
Honey products such as honey butters, spreads, mead, and flavored or infused honey may use the terms Pure and/or Natural only in describing the honey used in the product, not the product as a whole.
Honey containers must be labeled in accordance with current Texas laws.
The term “organic honey” may not be used to describe Real Texas HoneyTM.
Participants importing honey from outside the state of Texas are excluded from this program.
Any infractions in this agreement may result in deletion from the honey locator, and exclusion from the use of the Real Texas HoneyTM mark or seal. All members participating in the TBA Honey Locator are subject to inspection and if needed, provide proof of purchasing Texas Honey and could be removed if not compliant with the conditions on the Real Texas HoneyTM web site.
Hives must not be fed sugar syrup or corn syrup during periods of honey flow.
Any mite treatments must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s label.
